This splendid cinema is now owned by the Purbeck Film Charitable Trust, thanks to grants from Viridor, Wareham Town Trust and private benefactors. The Rex seats 130 in its charming auditorium, which still retains the friendly atmosphere and original ambience of the small town cinema - complete with gas lighting! It is one of the few cinemas in the country where you can buy a drink from the bar and take it in with you to watch the film. Kept going by the enthusiasm of a team of volunteers, the Rex is the flagship of the Purbeck Film Festival. Ticket prices are generally £6 with a reduction for OAPs. For more details and current programme, see www.therex.co.uk The Rex Cinema Wareham was purchased in 2009 by the Trust thanks to generous help from Viridor and other of Charities and donations from members of the public. |
